ArcelorMittal Orbit ( ArcelorMittal is a steel company )
This is the tallest sculpture in Britain. It is totally new, opened on 5 April 2014. It is on the location of the 2012 Olympic Games. Visitors can go on the top and enjoy the view.

The Shard is Europe's first vertical city (shard of glass = üvegszilánk)
It is a pyramid-shaped skyscraper with 72 floors. On the 72nd floor there is a viewing gallery and an open-air deck at a height of 244 metres.

Taxis in London are called black cabs. The body looks old-fashioned, but they are comfortable. The taxi driver sits on the right. When you pay you should give a tip saying: 'keep the change'.

Buckingham Palace is the home of the royal family. Thousands of tourists visit this place every day.

The English king or queen wears the Crown Jewels during the coronation ceremony. They are in the Jewel House in the Tower of London.

A double-decker is a bus with two decks. Their colour is red. Tourists like open top double-deckers without a roof. They are used for sightseeing tours.

10 Downing Street is the residence of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom ( presently David Cameron ). Very often there is a policeman ( bobby ) standing in front of the building. ( Now he is having tea in the kitchen that's why you can't see him.)

Harrods is a famous and elegant department store in London. The store occupies 90,000 m2 of selling space in over 330 departments making it the biggest department store in Europe. The Harrods motto is Omnia Omnibus Ubique All Things for All People, Everywhere.

The Tower of London was a prison for centuries. Today it is a museum where you can see the Crown Jewels in the Jewel House.

The Millenium Dome was built in 2000 celebrating the beginning of the third millenium. It is a dome-shaped building. The Prime Meridian ( 0 degree longitude ) passes the Dome. There are concerts and exhibitions here.

There are 70 million items in the Natural History Museum in London: animals, plants, minerals and many other interesting things from the exciting world of biology. The museum is famous for its exhibition of dinosaur skeletons.

Everybody knows Big Ben but only few people know that it is the name of the bell inside the clock tower. The building next to Big Ben is the Houses of Parliament. There is a modern double-decker bus on Westminster Bridge in the photo. Can you see the black cab?

Piccadilly Circus is a road junction in London's West End. Circus is a Latin word meaning 'circle' because this is a round open space. It is a busy meeting place and a tourist attraction. When a place is very crowded people say: 'it's like Piccadilly Circus'. 'Piccadilly Circus' was the code name of the D-Day invasion during World War II.

The River Thames from space. Over 8 million people live in London. 'Londinium' was founded by the Romans.

Royal Albert Hall is a concert hall in London. Albert was the name of the husband of Queen Victoria. There are concerts, exhibitions, tennis events and movie premieres at the hall.

Tower Bridge crosses the River Thames. It is a very old bridge and one of the symbols of London. It is close to the Tower of London. It has two horizontal walkways. The bridge opens with a hydraulic system. 40 000 people cross the bridge every day.
